Melbourne VIC, AustraliaBiography; It is all about legacy I'm a second generation family member. My late father was very successful in textile manufacturing and commercial property. And I, being the youngest in the family saw what was going on and decided I didn't want to join the family.
Instead I forged a path for myself as a technology entrepreneur. So I started as a software geek then started my own business, ended up starting three businesses and partnering with two others all in the IT technology and communications space. Then I started thinking about my future and developed an understanding of what it's like to be a business owner.
I formed a view that I did not want that business to be a lodestone around my neck. I believe very strongly that that a business should be an asset for a family and it should serve the owners, not the other way around.
I've seen so many families who have fantastic businesses, and they are a slave to the business rather than the other way around. So this got me thinking about what I wanted to do in my future.
Instead ended up making a pivot, spending some time on some boards of nonprofits, understanding governance, understanding family better. I did a masters and then ended up speaking about family business, family legacy, and wealth transition.
My book on Transition was published and I became a family advisor. I've set up my own family office. I've sold out of most of my own businesses.
I'm really passionate about helping families go through the journey of wealth transition and, and business transition. That means succession for some, or it might mean exit for some and it's about the core topic of creating a legacy.
