Appendix B - Writing Your Enterprise MTP
Now that you’ve seen how it works at the personal level, it’s time to create your enterprise’s MTP. There are several steps to consider when writing an enterprise MTP:

Identify the problem or challenge your organization is passionate about addressing. This should be a problem that resonates with your team and that they are committed to solving.

Develop a clear and compelling vision for the future that your organization wants to create. This vision should be inspiring and motivating and should inspire your team to take bold and innovative action.

Craft a simple and compelling statement that captures the essence of your MTP. This statement should be easy to remember and inspire your team to take action.

Develop a plan for how your organization will achieve its MTP. This plan should include specific goals, strategies, and tactics that will help you achieve your MTP

Communicate your MTP to your team and stakeholders. This will help to ensure that everyone is aligned and committed to achieving your MTP.

Monitor and evaluate your progress towards achieving your MTP. This will help you to identify areas where you may need to make adjustments or changes in order to achieve your goals.
Now you have the foundation on which to build—to compose—your company’s MTP. The final challenge is to translate your answers above to a structure larger than yourself: a powerful, fast-moving enterprise filled with brilliant, hard-working people prepared to help you realize your dream and make it theirs.
As one of the strongest advocates of institutional MTPs (and keeping on track with his own MTP), Peter has developed the following tutorial to help you write your own company MTP. Recognizing that the process can seem intimidating, he offers it as a series of steps (you’ll notice some similarities to your personal MTP).
STEP 1: Aspirations
List aspirational areas that fill you with excitement, wonder, and desire. Here are a few prompts to help you come up with “positive, aspirational areas for your MTP”:

What did you want to do as a kid before anyone told you it was impossible?

If we gave you $1 Billion to achieve an extraordinary goal, what would you do with the money?

STEP 2: Problem-solving
List a few big challenges or problems that you would love to solve or injustices that are painful or anger you?

STEP 3: Ambition
Who do you want to be a HERO to? Who would be the beneficiary of your MTP-related efforts? Who do you want to focus on?

Write down a few powerful action-verbs that describe specific actions you want to take related to those individuals you want to serve (Inspire, Transform, Impact, Create, Solve…).

STEP 5: Brainstorming
Write down a few potential MTPs. Keep your MTP short, definitely under 20 words. It should be something easy to remember and memorize.
Consider the following sentence structure:
The purpose of this enterprise is to (action/verb) and (action verb) to (Who do you want to be a hero to) (Your Aspirational purpose/Challenge you want solved)
Example: “The purpose of this enterprise is to inspire and guide entrepreneurs to create a hopeful, compelling and abundant future.”
STEP 6: Crowdsource
Show these MTPs to a small number of people you trust to give you the truth and wisdom to see the value of your ambitions. Ignore the advice of anyone who tries to get you to dial back those ambitions.
STEP 7: Incubate
Leave those MTP candidates alone for a while. Listen to your heart. It will tell you which one to pick.
STEP 8: Share
Share your new MTP with your employees, your stakeholders, and the world.
